  • Coober Pedy

    Coober Pedy is known for it's light seam Opal and it has been mined over an area that's 50km long! Unbearable summer temperatures have caused most people to live underground.

  • Lightning Ridge

    Discovered in 1905, Lightning Ridge produces most of Australia's Black Opals and is the largest producer in Australia by value. In the late 1980s the population soured to over 8,000!

  • Grawin

    Grawin is locarted about 40 from Lightning Ridge. In 1928 an Opal named 'The Light of the Worlds' was discovered here, which was the size of a fist and weighed 0.45kg!

  • Opalton

    Opalton, located near Winton is one of the largest Opal fields in Queensland and is known for it's high quality Opal. At the turn of the 20th century, there were over 600 people working the fields.

  • Mintabie

    Mintabie is lcoated about 300km north of Coober Pedy but produces a completely unique crystal type Opal. Temperatures in Temperatures range from over 40 degrees to below freezing.
